When did you start practicing yoga?
I started practicing yoga 20 years ago, initially Kripalu style, then Power/Vinyasa and Ashtanga, and now Bikram (for about 8 years).

Have you ever competed before?
I competed for the first time last year.

If yes, how was the experience?
There was a strong feel of comaraderie between the members of our team, and it felt like you were doing everything as a group, and that made it fun. Many of the other competitors I spoke to were there as individuals – we were there as a team. It was also eye opening to get to Nationals and see the level of competition amongst the winners – it was unbelievable what they could do.

Why did you decide to compete?
Last year my intent was to get deeper into my practice, which definitely happened. That process hasn’t stopped, and I’ve felt even more progress this year.

What’s your favorite part of the competition?
Right after finishing the routine on stage, and relaxing!

What’s your biggest takeaway from competing?
It’s a great way to deepen your yoga practice, and have some fun along the way.
